Eligibility to Purchase
By accessing our website and/or placing an order, you confirm that you are either:
- Aged 18 years or over; or
- Accessing the Site under the supervision and with the consent of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf.
You also agree that any information you provide to us is accurate, current, and complete. We reserve the right to refuse or cancel any order if:
- You do not meet the eligibility criteria;
- The order is being placed for commercial resale or unauthorised distribution;
- There is suspected fraud, misuse, or breach of these Terms.
You must not use our Site or services for any unlawful or unauthorised purpose. This includes (but is not limited to) violations of intellectual property rights, misuse of content, or breaches of data protection and privacy laws applicable in your jurisdiction.
We reserve the right to restrict, suspend or permanently terminate your access to the Site or our services where we reasonably suspect any misuse, unlawful activity, or breach of these Terms.
Contract Formation
When you place an order through our Site, you are making an offer to purchase the selected items in accordance with these Terms. Upon receiving your order, we will send an automated acknowledgment email confirming receipt—this does not constitute acceptance of your order.
A legally binding contract is formed only when we send you a dispatch confirmation email, confirming that the goods have been shipped. We reserve the right to accept or reject any order at our sole discretion prior to dispatch, for reasons including but not limited to:
· Unavailability or discontinuation of products;
· Pricing or typographical errors;
· Issues with payment authorisation;
· Suspected fraud or misuse of the Site;
· Logistical or operational constraints.
If we are unable to fulfil your order for any reason and payment has already been made, we will issue a full refund to your original payment method. Where appropriate, we will attempt to contact you to offer an alternative resolution.
Please ensure that all order details, including your contact and delivery information, are accurate and complete at the time of purchase. We cannot be held responsible for delays, misdeliveries, or losses resulting from incorrect or incomplete information.
Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Pricing and Payment
Our website displays prices in your local currency for ease of browsing, but all payments are processed in Pounds Sterling (GBP). The final amount charged to your payment method may vary slightly due to currency conversion rates applied by your bank or card provider. All listed prices include VAT where applicable. Any delivery charges will be calculated and clearly shown at checkout before you complete your purchase — they form part of the total amount payable.
While we may occasionally update our prices, product availability, or shipping rates, any changes will not affect orders that have already been confirmed and dispatched. Once you receive a dispatch confirmation email from us, the price you paid is locked in.
By placing an order, you’re confirming that:
- You’re authorised to use the payment method you’ve selected;
- Your billing details are accurate and up to date; and
- There are sufficient funds or credit available to complete the transaction.
Payment must be made in full at the time of ordering. We accept all major payment methods shown on our checkout page. If there’s an issue with your payment—such as a failed transaction or a dispute—we may need to pause or cancel your order while we resolve it. In rare cases, we may take further action if needed to recover any unpaid amounts.
If you have any questions or concerns about payment, just reach out to us at help@thebutterflybookclub.co.uk - we’re always happy to help.
Delivery
We aim to dispatch all in-stock orders within 5 working days of confirming your order, unless stated otherwise (for example, for pre-orders, subscription boxes, or limited-edition releases). If there’s a delay - especially during busy periods like holidays or special events - we’ll do our best to keep you informed via our website or by email.
Pre-order items can be ordered alongside in-stock items. However, where a shipping fee has been paid for the entire order, your items will only ship once all products are available for dispatch. If you wish to receive in-stock items sooner, we recommend placing separate orders.
Any delivery dates or timeframes displayed at checkout or in your order confirmation are estimates only. While we do everything we can to meet them, we can’t guarantee exact delivery dates. Factors outside our control—such as postal delays, customs checks, strikes, or weather conditions - may occasionally cause disruption.
Responsibility for the goods passes to you once the parcel is delivered to the shipping address you provided at checkout. So please double-check your delivery details before submitting your order - we can’t take responsibility for failed deliveries caused by incorrect or incomplete information, or if you miss a delivery notification.
If you have any questions about your delivery, or something doesn’t look right, feel free to get in touch at help@thebutterflybookclub.co.uk and we’ll be happy to help.
International Deliveries and Customs
If you're ordering from outside the UK, please note that you are the “importer of record” and may be responsible for any customs duties, taxes, or handling fees required by your local authorities. These charges are not included in our product or shipping prices and must be paid by you directly.
We’re unable to control or predict these costs, so we strongly recommend checking with your local customs office before placing your order.
If a parcel is refused at customs, not collected in time, or returned to us for any reason beyond our control, we will issue a refund for the item(s) only - excluding the original shipping cost and any customs, return, or handling fees incurred. If the parcel is not returned to us (e.g. it is destroyed or held indefinitely by customs), we will not be able to issue a refund.
It is your responsibility to ensure that the contact information you provide at checkout, including email address and phone number is accurate and up to date. We cannot be held liable for failed customs contact attempts, delays, or returns resulting from incorrect or incomplete contact details.
Please monitor your tracking updates closely and respond to any customs requests promptly. If you’re unsure how to proceed with a delayed parcel, your local postal or customs authority is usually best placed to help.
Failed Deliveries and Returns
If your parcel is returned to us due to an incorrect delivery address, missed delivery attempts, or failure to collect it from a depot or customs office, we will get in touch to arrange redelivery. Please note that a new shipping fee will apply.
If we don’t hear from you within 14 calendar days of our first attempt to contact you, we’ll consider the order cancelled and will refund the item cost minus the original and return postage fees, as well as any handling or customs charges we’ve incurred.
If your order arrives damaged, faulty, or incorrect, please let us know as soon as possible—and within the timeframe set out in our damage and returns policy—so we can resolve the issue. You may be asked to provide supporting information such as photographs.
This clause is in addition to, and does not affect, your statutory rights under UK consumer law.
Subscriptions
We offer rolling subscription services. By subscribing, you agree to recurring payments at the stated intervals and authorise us to charge your selected payment method automatically until you choose to cancel.
Subscription Renewals and Payments: Payment for each renewal period will be taken automatically using the payment details provided at the time of sign-up. Please ensure your payment information remains current - any failed payments may delay dispatch or result in cancellation of your subscription. You’ll find your next billing date in your account area and/or in your order confirmation emails. If you don’t wish to continue, it’s your responsibility to cancel before your renewal date. Once payment has been taken and your subscription has entered processing or dispatch, cancellations cannot be guaranteed and will only be accepted in accordance with your statutory rights.
Skipping a Month: Some subscription plans may offer a “skip” function for upcoming boxes. Where this option is available, you’ll need to activate the skip feature before your next billing date. Once your box has been processed or dispatched, the order is non-refundable under our usual fulfilment terms.
Cancellation and Refunds: You can cancel your subscription at any time by logging into your account or emailing us at help@thebutterflybookclub.co.uk. To avoid being charged for the next box, you must cancel before your next billing date. If your cancellation request is received after billing and the box has already entered processing or warehouse dispatch, we may not be able to cancel or refund your order. For the purposes of subscription cancellations, an order is deemed to have entered processing once a shipping label has been generated, or the order has been assigned to the fulfilment queue in our warehouse system. After this point, cancellation or modification may not be possible.
Delays and Estimated Dispatch Dates
We aim to dispatch subscription boxes and pre-ordered books on or around the dates advertised on our Site or in your order confirmation. However, all dispatch and delivery dates are estimates and may be subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances, including but not limited to supply chain delays, printing or production issues, or events beyond our reasonable control.
If a delay occurs, we will notify you as soon as reasonably possible and provide an updated estimated delivery timeframe. Unless you informed us at the time of placing your order that delivery by a specific date was essential and we explicitly accepted that, a short delay will not entitle you to cancel your subscription or claim a refund under consumer law.
If we are unable to dispatch your subscription within 30 calendar days of the agreed dispatch date, we will contact you with an updated delivery estimate. If we fail to dispatch the affected item(s) within that extended period, you may be entitled to cancel the delayed item and receive a refund for that portion of your subscription, in accordance with your statutory rights.
This clause does not affect your rights to a refund for faulty or misdescribed goods, or any other rights you may have under UK consumer law.
In line with UK consumer law, you have the right to cancel and return your subscription or pre-order item within 14 days of delivery if you change your mind.
To qualify:
- You must notify us in writing (via email) within 14 calendar days of receiving your item;
- The item must be returned to us within 14 calendar days of cancellation;
- Goods must be unopened and in resaleable condition, including any original packaging.
Return postage is your responsibility unless the item is faulty or misdescribed. We recommend using a tracked service, as we cannot refund items lost in transit. Refunds will be issued to your original payment method within 14 days of receiving the return.
The following items are non-refundable unless faulty:
- Sealed goods once opened;
- Personalised or custom-made items;
- Digital products where access has already been granted.
Pre-Orders and Limited Editions: We often produce limited-run collections based on confirmed pre-orders. Placing a pre-order reserves your copy and helps us determine final print volumes.
You may cancel a pre-order within 48 hours of placing it, before the item becomes sold out or before your order enters our warehouse queue—whichever comes first. After this point, cancellations are only accepted in accordance with your statutory rights, once the item has been delivered.
Any return must be in resaleable condition.
If your delivery address changes before dispatch, please update your details by emailing us promptly. We are not responsible for delivery failures caused by outdated or incorrect information.
Shipping dates for pre-orders are estimates and may be adjusted due to production or supply chain delays. If this happens, we’ll keep you informed via the email provided at checkout.
Faulty or Misdescribed Items: We take great care in curating and packing your order, but if something’s gone wrong, we’re here to make it right. If your item arrives damaged, faulty, or significantly not as described, please let us know as soon as possible - ideally within 14 calendar days of delivery. You can reach us at help@thebutterflybookclub.co.uk. Please include your order number, a description of the issue, and photos if relevant.
Where a fault or issue is confirmed, you are entitled to a refund, repair, or replacement in line with your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
We will cover return postage for any faulty or misdescribed items. Please wait for instructions before sending anything back - this helps us track your return and resolve your issue promptly. Refunds or replacements will be issued once we’ve received and inspected the returned item.
Delivery
We aim to dispatch all in-stock items within 5 working days of order confirmation, unless otherwise stated (such as in the case of pre-orders or subscription boxes). During peak periods or in the event of unforeseen delays, dispatch times may be extended - any such delays will be communicated via our website or by email where appropriate.
Delivery Timeframes and Liability: Estimated delivery times shown at checkout or in your confirmation email are provided as guidance only and are not guaranteed. Actual delivery time may vary depending on your location, chosen shipping method, or external factors such as customs processing, courier delays, strikes, or severe weather. These are outside our reasonable control and do not entitle you to cancel an order once it has been dispatched.
Risk and Title: Title to the goods shall pass to you upon full payment. Risk in the goods shall pass to you only once they have been physically received by you (or a person authorised by you), unless you have arranged your own courier who is not our nominated delivery partner, in which case risk passes upon collection by that courier.
International Delivery and Customs: If you are ordering from outside the United Kingdom, you may be liable to pay import duties, taxes, or other customs charges once the package arrives in your country. These fees are not included in the purchase or shipping price and must be paid by you as the recipient. You are solely responsible for:
- Checking local customs regulations before ordering;
- Paying any applicable import taxes or charges;
- Monitoring your shipment for customs clearance notifications.
If your parcel is refused, not collected, or returned to us due to non-clearance, we will refund the value of the goods (excluding the original shipping charge), minus any return fees or handling costs we incur. If the parcel is not returned to us (e.g. it is destroyed or held indefinitely by customs), we will not be able to issue a refund.
Failed Deliveries and Returns: If a parcel is returned to us due to non-collection, an incorrect delivery address, or failed delivery attempts, we will contact you to arrange redelivery — this may incur an additional shipping charge. If we do not receive a response within 14 calendar days, we will treat the order as cancelled and issue a refund for the goods, minus the original delivery and return postage costs.
Damaged or Missing Items: Please inspect your order upon arrival. If your item is damaged, faulty, or incomplete, please email us at help@thebutterflybookclub.co.uk within 7 calendar days of delivery. Be sure to include your order number, a clear description of the issue, and supporting photographs if possible. We cannot guarantee refunds or replacements for claims received after this period, unless your statutory rights require it.
Returns and Faulty Goods
We want you to love your order, but if something’s not quite right, we're here to support you.
Change-of-Mind Returns: If you change your mind about your purchase, you may be entitled to a return under your statutory rights - provided the item is unopened, unused, and in resaleable condition. To request a return:
- Contact us at help@thebutterflybookclub.co.uk within 14 calendar days of delivery.
- You must return the item within 14 days of notifying us.
- Return shipping is your responsibility unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Once we receive and inspect the returned goods, we will process your refund to the original payment method within 14 days.
Opening the external packaging for the purpose of inspecting the goods (e.g. to view the contents as you would in a physical store) will not invalidate your right to return, provided the items remain unused, unopened, and in a resaleable condition. However, if the internal packaging has been unsealed or items show signs of use, your right to return may be restricted under applicable consumer law.
Please note, we cannot accept returns for:
- Items that have been unsealed or opened (including subscription boxes);
- Personalised or made-to-order products;
- Digital content once access has started (e.g. downloads or eBooks).
These exclusions do not affect your legal rights under UK consumer law.
Faulty, Damaged, or Misdescribed Items: If your order arrives damaged, faulty, or significantly not as described, please let us know as soon as possible - ideally within 14 days of receipt. To report an issue:
- Email help@thebutterflybookclub.co.uk with your order number, a description of the problem, and clear photographs where applicable.
- Please wait for a reply before sending anything back — we’ll advise on next steps and confirm whether a refund, repair, or replacement is appropriate.
If your item is confirmed to be faulty or misdescribed, we’ll cover the cost of return postage and ensure your statutory rights are fully upheld.
Limitation of Liability
Nothing in these Terms shall limit or exclude our liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
- Any matter for which it would be unlawful to exclude or restrict liability under applicable law.
Subject to the above, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:
- Our total liability to you in connection with any order shall be limited to the total amount paid by you for the goods in question.
- We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss or damage, including (but not limited to) loss of profit, revenue, goodwill, or anticipated savings, whether arising in contract, tort (including negligence), or otherwise, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
- We are not responsible for any delays or failure to perform our obligations where such delay or failure results from events beyond our reasonable control (see Force Majeure clause below).
These provisions are in addition to your rights under UK consumer law and do not limit them in any way the affected order and will issue a full refund for any goods not received.

Unauthorised use of this website, our content, or brand assets may lead to civil or criminal liability and enforcement action.
Force Majeure
Sometimes, things happen that are beyond our control - and when they do, they may affect our ability to fulfil your order.
We won’t be held liable for any delays or failures to perform our obligations under these Terms if they are caused by events or circumstances outside our reasonable control (commonly known as “Force Majeure” events).
These can include, but are not limited to:
- Natural disasters, extreme weather, fire, or flood;
- Pandemics or public health emergencies;
- Strikes, industrial disputes, or labour shortages;
- Supply chain disruptions or transport issues;
- Government restrictions, conflict, or civil unrest;
- Failures by third-party services such as couriers, payment providers, or web hosts.
If something like this happens:
- We’ll let you know as soon as reasonably possible;
- Our obligations will be suspended for the duration of the disruption;
- Where possible, we’ll propose a revised delivery timeline or offer a suitable solution.
If the event continues for a prolonged period and prevents us from fulfilling your order, we may need to cancel the contract. If this happens, you’ll receive a full refund for any items not delivered.
Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms - and any contract formed between you and The Butterfly Book Club Ltd - are governed by the laws of England and Wales. This means that any dispute or claim (including non-contractual disputes or claims) arising from or in connection with your use of our site or your purchase from us will be governed by English law.
That said, we always prefer to sort things out amicably wherever possible. If you have a concern or issue, please reach out to us first at help@thebutterflybookclub.co.uk - we’ll do our best to resolve it quickly and fairly.
If a matter can’t be resolved informally, you may bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales. However, if you’re a consumer based elsewhere in the UK or in an EU country, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your home jurisdiction. Nothing in these Terms affects your legal rights.
If you are a consumer residing in the EU and prefer to seek resolution through an alternative dispute platform, you can access the European Commission’s Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) portal here:
